The Christmas gift

Created by Ruth 3 years ago

When I was about 10yrs old a photo of me was taken, by Dad, of me in Uncle Bill's garden, sawing some wood.

This is a vivid memory of mine. I have the photo on a usb stick & hope to get it printed off & put in my workshop.

The reason it is on my mind especially, is because dear Dad wished to get all his three girls a Christmas present that was relative to them. I believe he knew it would be his last Christmas so it was very important to him.

Dads gift to me was a workbench, crafted with two voices, just the right height,  and delivered all the way from Yorkshire.

Each time I was with Dad in the months before his passing, one of the first questions he asked was "has your workbench arrived yet".

Sadly it was delivered 7 days after his death, a few days before Christmas.

He never got to see a photo of it, but Dad, I hope you are looking at it from above, and reminisce with Mum about all those years ago when you nurtured my love for carpentry.

Thankyou Dad and love you and please give just the biggest hug to Mum with all my love xxx
